fine art
In December we visited an artist in Israel. Here he is in his studio in Ramla, explaining his latest project. He is environmentally concious and these fish address the plastic polluting the oceans and its long term devestating affects to the wildlife. He is a humble and respected artist who welcomed us into his studio.
One thing we had in comon was trees. He is know for making sculptures of trees using metal and wood, specifically olive wood for the bases. The olive wood as well as the symbol of the tree hold great meaning in this part of the world.
As for my work, I use parts of trees; the bark, branches, seed pod, whatever! There are endless unique textures and shapes. There is much to learn about trees.
He gave me a gift, a beautiful polished slab of knarly olive wood. It is a story in itself.
